up close

We sure do love our little boy! We're very thankful to God for his good gifts to us. For us the lines have fallen in very pleasant places.

first hike of the year

Terry and I did a day hike. We put in at the Cascade wayside and hiked south along the Superior Hiking Trail. There was a lot more snow than we both expected. We regretted not bringing up our snowshoes. We didn't see a single person, and the woods were extremely quite and peaceful. We did however find evidence of heavy deer traffic, a well as many other animal tracks. We came to a small river crossing and decided to make camp for lunch. After building a fire, we dried our feet as we ate and talked about life. We decided to go a bit further down the trail after a good rest and some food. It had been sprinkling on and off all day, so conditions we're less than perfect considering it was only 34 degrees. Shortly down the trail we crossed a snowmobile trail and decided to follow it to the lake. Once we crossed over hwy 61, we hiked the shoreline back to our car. There was some cool spots where we had to do some traversing and one river crossing where we had to do some bouldering to get across.

It was a great trip. It's so good to get out of the busy and bombardment of the city and into the woods for a while. I hope I have many more times like this come summer and fall.

my new favorite thing to do at my in-laws

Pictured is my friend and coworker Terry (husband of Stacy and father of Elijah from previous post) doing a sweet traverse climb. I've always been a little scared of rock climbing, but this past weekend I really fell in love with it. We didn't do anything major, but it was still super fun, and come to think of it, very risky. Most of the climbs were right on the edge of the water so if a fall were to happen, there would be some serious coldness and wetness.

hiking with the boys

Last weekend we went for a visit to Grand Marais with some friends from our small group. We had a wonderful time (as always - it's hard to not have a good time when you're being spoiled by Emily's parents and taking in the beauty of God's creation). Here's some pics of the boys in their bjorns. Elijah (pictured with mom - Stacy) actually fell asleep as they walked down the shore of Superior. I found this amazing considering how cold and windy it was.

speaking of new toys...

Introducing the "Portable Fun™ Ultrasaucer®" from Evenƒlo™

Tastes great and is hours of amusement. We like to refer to this apparatus as the "ultra super mega stimulation overload center." It's one of those deals that they can stand in an spin circles and have something to play with no matter which way they're facing. The last picture shows him with his favorite stimuli.

new favorite past time

Corban has found his feet, and they are one of his new favorite toys.

portent

I was reading and praying Psalm 71 over Corban tonight and came across a word I didn't know. The word was "portent." I looked it up, and I now understand it's meaning. What portent can be greater than our God!
